New UK based Linux servers (cPanel)

It gives me great pleasure to announce the availability of UK based Linux cPanel servers. All new accounts will be provisioned on our UK based servers and over the coming months we will schedule the move of all our clients to our UK based servers.

If you would like to make use of these new servers, please open a support ticket and request that your account be moved. The transfer process is seamless and there is no need to make any changes to your domains name server records.

    Best regards

    Hi Adam

Does the same apply to WHM reseller accounts with private IP addresses, or will resellers be dealt with separately.

(This is good news from an SEO viewpoint in the UK).

    Many thanks,

    Hi Iain,

Yes it applies to all clients, however moving a reseller with dedicated IP's is a little bit more involved but can be moved as required.

    Hi Adam,

I have opened a ticket to move our reseller account to the UK.

May I ask what these servers are, where are they, who is running them etc.

I am under no illusion that the changeover will go like a dream but it would be nice to have some further info to be able to quote to our customers along the lines of..

"Yes sir, we are moving you to new UK servers which will be better for you because......."

Obviously UK servers are going to improve our UK relevant rankings but it is always nice to have additional info for the punter.

    Thanks lots.

    Jonathan

Spot on! The servers are owned and operated by Server Centre Limited and they are collocated with NODE4 in Derby approx a mile from our office! The new infrastructure is built on VMware Infrastructure. Meaning if we have a hardware fault the service will failover to another node seamlessly.

In Q2 2009 we will have the ability to seamlessly failover to another datacenter. Providing fault tolerance at all levels. This will obviously have a significant impact on the level of service we can offer and the number of services available as this is the first step in our new 'Cloud' offerings.

There are some exciting plans in the pipeline for Server Centre/HU clients. I can't disclose too much detail here at the moment will update the community with details nearer the release date.

    Best regards

btw, does the location of the server really have any bearing on search engine rankings? Surely in this day and age people host their web sites all over the place?

As far as I know, all the website bods we use all say that if your host ultimately resolves in the UK then your UK search ranking should be better than if you resolved to outside the UK.

    Anyone else?

    Thanks Adam.

At first it looked as if my site's (www.rafflesnagoya.com) Japanese language content should put it in the Japan context OK, but lower down there was an example of a "British website ranked very well indeed in Google.de, but came up nowhere in the UK index" in spite of being presumably in English. Still, that was "many years ago" so maybe Google have improved their algorithm since.

I don't really want to host with a Japanese company - I like it at HU and they're more expensive here in Japan (though getting a bit cheaper...).

    Adam,
Opened a ticket on the 9th but it is still stuck at "escalation to management" stage with no reply.
Is this still ok/in progress and should I just shut up and wait?

    Hi Jonathan,

Your in the queue, just waiting on a new Dell delivery and will then have a timescale for you.

    Happy New Year

    Hi there,

Can anyone advise us if we have been moved onto one of these new UK servers yet?

We are having problems at the moment and if we have not already been migrated, it might be worth trying!

    Cheers,
    Rob.

    Adam,

Sorry to bring it up here, but I am still stuck in the middle of this. We have moved over but have still got emails in the old system. I have been able to login to reply to these emails using http://newipaddress/webmail but now i am receiving info that the new system is not sending emails out. Support originally said that if i had any fixed ip's they would need changing but I dont use them for most of the domains.

My ticket reference is QTT-440953 and it is stuck at the stage of your support guy asking me which domains and which emails i want transferring.

I dont want to reply "EVERYTHING!" and it get even worse so i have telephoned and left a message but am not getting anywhere and not hearing anything back.

2 of the domains (used by us here) are supplying ticket systems for an ISP and a wholesale ISP so this is starting to get a bit pressured now. The vast majority of our domains are resold to end users so I need all the emails from the old system (including any webmail based sent items!) to be merged with the new ones.

    What should I do?

    Jonathan
